You will likely need some time to get used to the Baroque flute no matter which one you start with. Since you have some past experience, you should already have a start at the embouchure (I know it may feel like you forgot everything but your muscles will remember more than you think).Gwyneth Whistlewoodnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3639458557308533733.post-2749788282764128432023-11-08T09:34:01.046-07:002023-11-08T09:34:01.046-07:00Hi, I've found your post really useful. I've been playing the recorder for a while and recently decided to start with the baroque flute cause I simply love the repertoire (XVII-XVIII) (I played the modern flute for sometime years ago). Do you think I should restart with the modern boehm flute before the baroque flute or do you think it would be advisable to jump directly with the baroque flute? (in terms, for example, of the development of my embochure). Thanks in advance for your help.Luis Escobar L.-Dellamaryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04883148634312384761noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3639458557308533733.post-35411211455130659032023-03-26T12:09:41.789-07:002023-03-26T12:09:41.789-07:00Look up fingering charts for "pennywhistle&qu...Look up fingering charts for "pennywhistle" or "Irish flute" or "Baroque flute" in a search engine and you will find a lot. I recommend finding a chart specific to your instrument as each maker is a bit different. Books on Baroque flutes and Medieval flutes often have charts in them. Here is a link for Hall Crystal flutes instruments but keep in mind you may have to modify these a bit for your instrument. https://hallflutes.com/wp-content/uploads/Fingering-Charts.pdfGwyneth Whistlewood the Feral Flutehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18044619104058671721noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3639458557308533733.post-16108951706165143482023-03-25T13:28:14.921-07:002023-03-25T13:28:14.921-07:00thank you for sharing these insights. it has reall...thank you for sharing these insights. it has really helped me quickly. can you point me in the right direction for 6 hole fingerings with note names? or bach works with fingerings? The fact that tuning the Baroque flute uses different adjustments makes you hear the modern flute's tuning in subtly different (and generally better) ways.
The different tone options on the Baroque flute can transfer too. The trick there is learning to change your tone on purpose!
I have found that the specific techniques I learn on ANY instrument can be useful on another. Sometimes just by expanding what I am able to hear. Other times by refining skills in ways I might not have managed if I hadn't had to learn the new instruments tricks and quirks.Gwyneth Whistlewood the Feral Flutehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18044619104058671721noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3639458557308533733.post-43760543387291427932016-01-01T06:50:42.743-07:002016-01-01T06:50:42.743-07:00Thanks for confirming an approach I wasn't co...Thanks for confirming an approach I wasn't confident about.
